Latter-day Pulse — Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026

Good morning! Today's theme is "Bonds that endure": two new houses of the Lord are dedicated today, Saints in Mexico remember their ancestors, and Elijah's promise to turn the hearts of the children to their fathers. Here's your quick dose of faith, news, and fun.

🏛️ Two Temples Dedicated Today

Elder Patrick Kearon of the Quorum of the Twelve dedicates the Wichita Kansas Temple today, the first house of the Lord in Kansas, serving more than 14,500 members (Church Newsroom). Earl McIntyre, a Wichita member since 1978, once drove hours to reach a temple and now lives about 10 minutes away: "As you attend the temple, you build up a spiritual reservoir" (Church News). Elder Dale G. Renlund also dedicates the San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple today (see Temple of the Day).

🗞️ This Morning in the Church

Elder Andersen on the Day of the Dead. Filming in a cemetery in Oaxaca, Mexico, ahead of the Nov. 1–2 Día de Muertos holiday, Elder Neil L. Andersen taught, "We are links in a chain that binds generations together through faith, sacrifice, experience and love." The Mexico Area presidency invites members to find ancestors and take their names to the temple all of November (Church News).

BYU holds off ASU. The Cougars beat Arizona State 27-20 in Provo to move to 7-1 (4-1 Big 12), with six sacks in the first half, a school record for one half. A 95-yard, 11-play drive capped by Sione Moa's second touchdown sealed it. Next up: at Utah (Deseret News).

Joseph Smith's finances, in one book. The Church Historian's Press released a new Joseph Smith Papers ebook drawing on nearly 2,000 financial documents and more than seven years of work. Archivist Sharalyn D. Howcroft said the Prophet worked so that all Saints had a place to live, "and he shouldered that debt" (Deseret News).

💬 Prophetic Words

"For their salvation is necessary and essential to our salvation, as Paul says concerning the fathers—that they without us cannot be made perfect—neither can we without our dead be made perfect."
— The Prophet Joseph Smith, Doctrine and Covenants 128:15

📜 On This Day

Nov. 1, 1838: After Joseph Smith's arrest at Far West, General Samuel D. Lucas held a military trial and sentenced him and other prisoners to be shot the next morning. General Alexander W. Doniphan, the only lawyer present and not a Church member, refused: "It is cold-blooded murder. I will not obey your order." His troops were gone the next morning, and the prisoners were taken to Jackson County instead of being executed (Saints, vol. 1, ch. 31).

📖 Doctrine Deep-Dive: Turning Hearts

When the angel Moroni visited Joseph Smith in 1823, he quoted a promise about families: Elijah "shall plant in the hearts of the children the promises made to the fathers, and the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers." Without that, "the whole earth would be utterly wasted at his coming" (Doctrine and Covenants 2:1–3). Elijah restored those sealing keys in the Kirtland Temple in 1836 (D&C 110:13–16), and every new temple, like the two dedicated today, extends that work.

Reflect: Whose story in your family deserves to be remembered this month?

🏛️ Temple of the Day: San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple

Dedicated today by Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve, with the session broadcast to meetinghouses across the temple district. Its open house drew 16,343 visitors from Sept. 21 to Oct. 10 (official temple page, Church News). At its media day, Elder José Luis Alonso said, "We can build bridges of understanding and mutual respect that enrich our coexistence" (Church Newsroom).

❓ Daily Trivia

Yesterday's answer: Nippon Budokan. President Spencer W. Kimball announced the Tokyo Japan Temple at an area conference held at the Nippon Budokan arena in Tokyo in 1975 (Church Newsroom).

Today’s question: When Earl McIntyre moved to Wichita, Kansas, in 1978, his new temple was nearly a thousand miles away. Which temple was it?
